Tom began his working life in financial services in New York, specialising in European and Latin American debt. In 1983 he entered politics, and served for 14 years as Conservative MP for the Lancashire constituency of Bolton West.
During this period he founded the All Party Committee on Drug Misuse, and served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the ministers in the Department of Health and Social Security and the Northern Ireland Office.
He was later appointed Government Whip, and served as a minister at the Department of Health and subsequently at the Home Office. Since 1998 Tom has been Chief Executive of the International Federation of Health Plans, the leading global network of the health insurance industry. He is founder and chairman of a family support charity, and advisor to an NHS Treatment Centre and a leading healthcare IT provider.
Stefano started his career with his family’s group of companies, which includes private clinics and diagnostic equipment manufacturing in Italy, France and the United States.
He joined Arthur Andersen in London in 1996, where he was a member of the healthcare corporate finance team. In 1999, Stefano founded NephroNet, a chain of independent dialysis centers in Italy, which was sold to Baxter in 2001. From 2001 to 2003 Stefano was a Managing Director of Baxter Renal Therapy Services. Since 2002 Stefano is a partner at Healthcare Capital Partners (London), a private equity and corporate finance advisory boutique specialized in life sciences and healthcare ventures that he founded. As part of his investment activities Stefano is a shareholder and board member of several healthcare ventures and private equity funds.
Stefano earned an MBA from the Imperial College Management School in 1994.
Scott started his career in banking with Merrill Lynch in New York in 1987. Formerly Scott was a senior manager in global corporate development at National Medical Care (NMC), at the time the world’s largest Haemdialysis provider. During his tenure at NMC he assisted in building the international division and completed over 100 haemodialysis clinic transactions.
He played a key role in building NMCs leading UK and European presence. Since 2002 Scott has been a partner at Healthcare Capital Partners, a company that he founded with Stefano Ciampolini. He is also CEO of Lipoxen Plc, a biotechnology company he listed on AIM (ticker symbol LPX) in 2006. Prior to HCP Scott was director (1996-2001) of Arthur Andersen’s Healthcare Corporate Finance, a practice he co-founded in 1996. While at Andersen, Scott advised a number of leading dialysis companies including Althin Medical (manufacturer of dialysis products and consumables) on the sale to Baxter (1999) and Total Renal Care (now DaVita) on their European business development initiatives (1997-1999).
Scott earned an MBA from the Babson Graduate School in 1993.
John Sergides holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, but has spent most of his career working in the financial sector.
He is currently Head of Business Development and Strategy (Europe, Middle East and Africa) for Deutsche Bank Alternative Fund Services, Deutsche Bank, London, having previously worked as an Executive Director for Hedge Fund Services at JP Morgan in London and as a senior trader for the HSBC Group and for Barclays Capital in both London and Tokyo.
He is a Non-Executive Director of Point Nine Financial Group, a leader in the credit derivatives services industry, where he previously held the role of CEO.
Professor Piccione has been a consultant nephrologist since 1974. In a career spanning over 30 years Professor Piccione has held a number of high profile positions both in the public and private healthcare sector.
In 1997 he resigned from the public sector to become Chief Executive Officer of Total Renal Care Italy. Between 1997 and 1999 he grew the company from 3 to 23 dialysis centres treating over 800 patients across Italy.
The company was sold to Fresenius Medical Care in 2000. From 2001 to 2003 Professor Piccione was Managing Director of Baxter Renal Therapy Services Italy. In 2003 together with Stefano Ciampolini he acquired the Italian centres from Baxter and he is currently managing director of the Italian operations.
Craig is Chief Finance Officer of Renal Services LTD. He was previously Chief Executive of Arlington Group PLC (a London Stock Exchange AIM listed investment company). Prior to that he acted as investment adviser to a number of private investment vehicles and was Chairman and Founding Director of Griffin Mining Limited.
Griffin was the best performing stock on London’s AIM market over five years in 2006 and 2007, Until 1995, Craig was a Director and Head of Corporate Finance at ANZ Grindlays Bank PLC where he was responsible for origination and execution of cross border transactions in Europe, Asia and Africa.
He is currently a Director of AIM listed Longships PLC and Sportswinbet Limited. He also has a number of private interests in property, gaming and media related business. He has a Masters degree in Economics from St Catharine’s College Cambridge and is Chartered Accountant.
Dr Carr graduated in medicine from King’s College London in 1981 and has been a consultant nephrologist since 1993. He is a Specialty Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians in London responsible for College approval of all consultants.
Dr Carr Chairs the Specialist Training Committee for the South Thames Region and is responsible for all postgraduate training in Nephrology. He is Senior Renal Physician and Clinical Lead Board Member at Worthing & Southlands NHS Trust and Consultant Nephrologist to Brighton Healthcare Trust.
Over the past 20 years Dr Carr has held a number of managerial and clinical positions inside the NHS and published several articles in European medical journals.
Kathy has worked as a renal nurse specialist since 1994 and has been involved in the development and management of dialysis centers in the UK since 1998. She has managed renal services for Total Renal Care, Fresenius Medical Care and The London Clinic. As HR Project Manager at The London Clinic Kathy was a key specialist in the delivery of the Human Resources strategy in enabling the organisation to become the employer of choice and in securing cost savings of over £1.5m in the first year of the project.
Kathy is responsible for the delivery and management of all clinical services provided by Renal Services LTD incorporating human resources management and business development. She provides nursing leadership to ensure the highest level of professional practice and patient care is met.
In addition to being a qualified RN Kathy has a MBA, BSc Honours Degree in Health Services Management and she is PRINCE 2 qualified.
Prior to his appointment Karl was Finance Director of Baber Smith PLC, a London-based marketing agency. He is a qualified accountant and an associate member of CIMA.
Karl has held a number of positions in finance and accounting working for the Environment Agency, Lloyds TSB, Carbon Ltd (a music retailer) and Zone Vision Ltd (a digital television service).
Neluka has 12 years experience in renal nursing in both public and private sector hospitals. In her last position at the London Clinic she was responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the nursing module of the patient information system. Her academic background is in chemistry and has a PhD in Organic Chemistry.
Neluka is responsible for the co-ordination and development of clinical governance activities and for the Renal Services’ registration programme with the Care Quality Commission. She is also responsible for monitoring standards of care in all the renal units and leads on all tendering for new business.
